Sometimes, loved ones and friends are left with making distressing decisions about health care. With an Advance Directive or Living Will people have the opportunity to clearly express what they would prefer to occur well in advance of any such event occurring. This way loved ones can refer to the document when making difficult decisions knowing that they are respecting their loved ones wishes.
A Living Will is a document created to express your wishes in the event that you are incapacitated and cannot express such preferences.
A Living Will may include expressing your wishes as to:
- Use of life support in various situations; and/or
- Whether you wish to be resuscitated in various circumstances; and/or
- Whether a health professional should continue to care for you in the event that they are not respecting your wishes; and/or
- Various other matters.
